A few weeks ago I wrote an article about why there were no Total War games on PS5… Well, shortly after I released that article, the great people over a Total War announced the first ever game for consoles, and I couldn’t be more excited!

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is officially coming to the PlayStation 5! This is such an incredible development, and such an amazing thing for the strategy community on consoles. As mentioned in my prior article, the lack of Total War game on consoles is absolutely silly, especially with other legendary franchises like Age of Empires and Civilization making console ports forever and a half ago. Now, that all changes. One of my favorite PC strategy games of all time is finally making the just to the consoles we all love. The new obsession for all of us begins now.

I was aware that the team over at Total War was developing a system that could easily allow them to port their games to consoles, but I was under the impression that something like that would be years away at least. I just so happened to be browsing the upcoming game to pre-order on the PS Store, and sure enough, there it sat all the way on the bottom of the list. I was so shocked and surprised by this I instantly put it on my wishlist. What’s even more crazy is that literally nobody is talking about this. NOBODY. This is huge for the strategy gamers on consoles. That’s why we’re here! We here at the Pixel Parlor love talking about niche subjects in the world of nerd culture.

Now, while 40k is one of my favorite franchises, Total War has a rich history of historical games that I would much rather see on PS5. Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to play the mess out of it when it comes out, but Total War was built from the pages of history books in contrast to science fiction. I mean the only Total War game I’ve ever played was Total War: Rome which completely opened my mind to blending real time and turn based strategy. It was the PERFECT swirl of operational and tactical gameplay, and nothing has ever come close to meeting that standard.

Now that we’re getting the newest game of theirs, I’m really praying to the gaming gods that we will eventually get those older games that I’ve wanted to play for ages. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we’ll see them on the PS Store soon!
