Another amazing game meets the same fate as many other incredible games that graced our screens over the years. Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, the desperate survival space combat simulation, has been slated to be delisted from all online stores on November 15th. Players that own the game before that date will still be able to download and enjoy it forever, but nobody else will be able to purchase the game or it’s wildly fun DLCs.
This is so heartbreaking to hear since I’ve owned the game for a very long time, but real life and Dad duties prevented me from actually playing it. The most disappointing thing for me about this news is that I quite literally redownloaded this on my PS5 last week to finally give it the play time it deserves, then I woke up to this news today. Things like this are simply terrible for gamers.
Deadlock isn’t the only game to meet such a fate. Licensed games are pretty much always destined to meet fall into the empty void that is the Delisted realm. I was a HUGE fan of Evolve, but I only owned it physically. I believe I traded it in for something with the intention of getting it digitally, but as soon as I pulled that trigger it was delisted leaving me without a way of gaining access to it. I own a digital only PS5, and I know I can purchase a separate disc drive for it, but now comes the question if such a thing is worth it for a handful of games.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is simply an amazing game that has one of the most unique systems I’ve seen in a strategy game. The colonial forces and the Cylons issue their commands at the same time, then end their turn where the results of their commands are played out in real time. It’s very reminiscent of the old German wargame Kriegspiel where both sides issues their order and a referee conducts both movements at the same time, allowing both to fire upon enemy lines simultaneously.
Deadlock features a story rich in content, and is a faithful adaptation of the modern telling of the show. It’s a story about survival against overwhelming odds. The colonial forces are just trying to survive day by day as the Cylon threat endlessly pursues them. The human fleets are forced to quickly jump into warp as soon as they can just to survive another day. It’s one of my favorite science fiction stories where you can actually feel the desperation of the crew of Galactica.
The game has the same feeling. Every single fight feels like a desperate fight for survival, especially in the Anabasis game mode. This is one of my FAVORITES in the game. You have a small fleet of combat ships that must protect an ever growing fleet of unarmed civilian ships as the Cylons warp in to make sure all of humanity goes extinct. You have to defend the civilians as you wait several turns for the warp capabilities to charge up in each ship so you can all get out safely. I personally feel like this game mode has the closest feeling to the desperation that the show tries to illustrate to the viewer, and it simply can’t get closer than that.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock may be vanishing from online stores, but you still have time! You can still purchase it until November 15th, so hurry! Let’s show these game publishers that we LOVE this game and taking it away from future gamers and lovers of the franchise is a huge MISTAKE.
