Now, I’m not going to sit here and give all you amazing readers another article about how great and legendary No Man’s Sky is. Trust me, There’s a million of them, and we all know that already. There is no game in the history of video games that allows absolute freedom to explore the universe. Literally every-single-inch of the unlimited number of planets in the in game universe. It’s quite simply the greatest exploration game of all time, if not THE greatest game of all time. Those who have played could certainly make the argument.
The game’s developers, Hello Games, deserve all the love and praise that they’ve received over the many years. Not only have they continued to improve the core mechanics of the game, they have released major expansion for FREE. That is not an exaggeration. They have poured hundreds of hours into future development for the game, and release it to their player base at absolutely no cost. Not only is that a game development company that cares about its players, but one who remembers how game developing should be. It should be a work of art just as much as a product to sell.

Frankly, I could make a dozen articles just spelling out specifically how Hello Games has become one of my favorite developers of all time, but I’m not going to bore y’all. Today we’re looking at something that I truly believe would be a great addition to an already perfect game. Of course everyone has something different they would want added to this game, but what I would like to see is mechanics and systems that would benefit the player community as a whole!
Stock Exchange System
No Man’s Sky already has such a wonderful economic system. The deep trading system and logistics routes have had me hooked and daydreaming for hours while I’m at work. For those of you that may know me I LOVE a game with a good economic system, but No Man’s Sky has one in place that feels incredibly simple that can scale to complex the further you dive into it. That’s the beauty of it! It can be as easy or difficult to manage as you want, which is how every sandbox game should be. However, there is one thing missing from this system. You can own a vast trading empire hauling multi tons of goods across the galaxy to trade as well as send out trading fleets to the farthest reaches of the known universe, but for some reason, there is no ability to actually invest your excess funds into other enterprises.
I think it would be so cool to have all sorts of companies established in every star system. Mining economies, or course, would have several mining companies to invest in, tech companies can fill strong tech based systems and even small businesses and super markets could exist within commerce systems. It would have a live stock market terminal found at every space station and would react to market supply and demand just like the tradable commodities! Companies will pay out dividends every five real world days, which can be done replicating the frigate expedition system when it comes to times and explanations of why the particular company stock is performing the way it is. I think that something like that would be truly fascinating.

What would be even cooler on top of that would be the establishment of player owned companies that other players can buy and sell stocks in. Think about it. Players that spend hundreds of hours building vast trade empires can allow players that can’t play that much the opportunity to get a piece of that pie for a nice little fee of course. There can be a leaderboard up at every stock terminal that would show the 25 top performing stocks and allow players to just directly invest their credits into them. I feel like this would be a fun, community driven way to spend your credits after you pretty much have bought everything you want already.
Man, how cool would that be? Companies that players could invest in and directly contribute to the in game economy sounds like such a fun time. And it’s a very low time commitment to players who just want to dump their extra funds into a company and continue exploring the endless universe. I truly believe that something like this would be an incredible asset….see what I did there?
