Because yes, Glam does survive. And yes, he becomes successful and builds the life of his dreams. But he is forever scarred (mentally and physically) and the series shows those lasting affects where he struggles to maintain his composure when giving his son a guitar lesson and references his needing antipsychotics to function.

One of the most impressive aspects of Metal Family is that it exists largely because of passionate creators and a dedicated fanbase. Without the enormous budgets of major animation studios, the team delivers expressive character animation, strong voice acting, memorable musical performances, high-quality editing, and distinctive visual design.
